eating around los angeles
A quick sketch of some of the things we ate on a recent trip to Los Angeles. There were some lovely dinners out but I think I liked having pupusas and chili mangoes in the park best.

I’ve been working on this for a while in fits and starts and finished a couple days ago. Comical timing, no? It doesn’t mean anything!…OR DOES IT (From a photo of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow by my friend Janie.

Stripey architecture! The immense and indescribable satisfaction of drawing a million little lines with a Hunt 107 nib pen.
A composite of several ghost towns.
A wooden church in Russia, from a photograph series by Richard Davies.
A house off highway 1 in 1984, found in a stack of old family photos.
Turf houses in Iceland.

A little detail from the Austin food illustration: Unicorn Poop! This is a magical ice cream flavor at my friend Valerie’s vegan ice cream shop, Sweet Ritual, in Austin. It’s the shit. ;D

A Valentine’s Day card for my Sweetie Poo. I think many of you in longterm relationships can relate, even if you’re not familiar with the Diary of Samuel Pepys.

Our 20th (!!) anniversary party and wedding reception was on September 9. Here’s a sketchbook page from when it was all coalescing. I wanted to draw out all the bits to make sure they could be copacetic visually.

A sketch about listening to the Cure’s Plainsong when I was 16. Sometimes you hear a song and it overcomes you and you have to hang on while the earth spins.

eating around vancouver
Thinking gluttonously back to last spring in Vancouver. We ate so many scrumptious things (scrumptions?) I couldn’t fit them all. Favorite restaurants were Ask for Luigi, which was in a sweet little house, and Bao Bei, which was kind of like an elegant 1930s Mission Chinese. Honorable mention goes to Peaceful Restaurant for their handmade dan dan noodles and lamb dumplings, Pourhouse for their juicy grassy wildly good hamburger, and Kintaro for their spicy ramen that had a golfball-sized lump of chopped garlic perched on top of an evilly delicious deep red broth. Steve insisted on a ramen tour of Vancouver, from which Marutama‘s chicken broth ramen emerged the victor. He also insisted on multiple nights of poutine and three Japadog lunches. :O

giclée prints from INPRNT
per request, i’m selling giclee prints once again! i got voted on to INPRNT (hooray) and have uploaded a bunch of work, both new and extremely ancient. let me know if there’s anything missing you’d like to see there. the paper they use is a heavy archival cotton rag and is nicely priced to boot.
